In the evening hours of a late April day in Phoenix, Arizona, a young Hispanic man's life was tragically cut short. On April 27, 2014, gunshots shattered the peace near the downtown area, leaving 27-year-old Juan Ortiz Canales fatally wounded. When police arrived at the scene in the vicinity of Pierce and 16th streets around 5:30 p.m., they found Canales on the ground, suffering from a gunshot wound.
