In the evening hours of a Sunday in Phoenix, Arizona, the life of 19-year-old Alonzo G Morales was tragically cut short. On November 18, 2018, the young Hispanic male was discovered with a gunshot wound at an apartment complex located near 4400 E. Baseline Road. Emergency services were called to the scene around 7:05 p.m., and Alonzo was quickly transported to a local hospital for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead later that night. At the time of his passing, Alonzo was a resident of Glendale, Arizona.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to a potential drug-related motive. The circumstances surrounding the incident led authorities to identify three individuals in connection with Alonzo's death. In the early morning hours of November 19, 2018, less than a day after the shooting, law enforcement located and arrested three suspects. Jonah Bascome, who was 20 years old at the time, along with 18-year-olds Ahmed Gutierrez and Obed Gutierrez, were taken into custody.
Following their apprehension, the three men were booked on serious charges, including first-degree murder and robbery, in relation to the death of Alonzo G Morales. The investigation continued after the arrests to piece together the full scope of the events that led to the fatal shooting. A memorial service to honor Alonzo's life was held on December 4, 2018, at West Resthaven Funeral Home in Glendale, where he was remembered by his parents, Bernice and Francisco, and his three siblings, Alex, Ethan, and Elly.
