In the early evening of January 3, 2022, a burst of violence shattered the night in the parking lot of a Scottsdale, Arizona hotel. It was there that Ilya Mike Shimonov, a 32-year-old White/Caucasian male, was shot. The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. near the Hyatt Place Hotel in Old Town Scottsdale. First responders found Shimonov gravely wounded and rushed him to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal.
The Scottsdale Police Department immediately launched a
wide-ranging investigation into the death of the man known to friends as 'Mike.' The search for those responsible quickly expanded beyond Arizona's borders, becoming a complex, multi-state effort. Detectives found themselves coordinating with law enforcement agencies across the country, with the investigation leading them through California, Nevada, Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana. The extensive manhunt demonstrated a significant collaborative effort between various police departments to track down the individuals connected to the fatal shooting.
This determined, cross-country pursuit ultimately led to the apprehension of two suspects. On January 12, 2022, nine days after the shooting, authorities in Las Vegas, Nevada, arrested 41-year-old Robert Yves Celifie in connection with Shimonov's murder. The second suspect, Chaze M. Cable, also 41, was taken into custody two days later on January 14, in Texarkana, Arkansas. Both men were subsequently charged with several felonies, including first-degree murder, for their alleged roles in the death of Ilya Shimonov.
