On January 3, 2022, Ilya "Mike" Shimonov, a 32-year-old man, was fatally shot in the parking lot of the Hyatt Place Hotel in Scottsdale, Arizona. The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of 3rd Avenue and Drinkwater Boulevard in Old Town Scottsdale. Shimonov was found by officers and transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
