A dispute that began in a parking lot and spilled into an Albertsons grocery store in Scottsdale, Arizona, tragically ended the life of 35-year-old Robert Carlos Padilla, a Hispanic male, on the evening of August 6, 2024. Padilla, a husband and father of four, had gone to the store to buy soda for his mother-in-law. According to his wife, the fatal encounter may have been sparked by a road rage incident.
The initial altercation outside the Albertsons at Scottsdale Road and Thomas
involved Padilla and two other men. This confrontation continued inside the store, where a violent shootout erupted between Padilla and one of the other individuals. Both men suffered life-threatening injuries during the exchange of gunfire. In his final moments, Padilla attempted to call his step-daughter, but the line was silent when she answered.
Scottsdale Police responded to multiple calls reporting the shooting and discovered one wounded person inside the store and another outside near a veterinary clinic. Both Padilla and the other shooter were transported to a nearby hospital, where Padilla succumbed to his injuries. The other man was last reported to be in critical condition.
As the investigation continues, the Scottsdale Police Department has not yet labeled either shooter as a "suspect" or a "victim." Authorities are in the process of interviewing witnesses and reviewing security footage to piece together the events that led to the deadly shooting. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident, and the identity of the other man involved has not been released.
