In the winter of 2014, a Scottsdale neighborhood's sense of peace was disturbed by a distressing series of events that culminated in the death of 35-year-old Anthony Mascarino. On the evening of January 12th, the Scottsdale Police Department received a call concerning a man, later identified as Mascarino, who was reportedly acting in an unstable manner while in possession of a shotgun.
The initial reports painted a picture of a volatile situation, prompting a swift and serious police response.
Officers arrived at a residence near 90th Street and Mountain View Road to find a tense and potentially dangerous scene unfolding. They located Mascarino inside an open garage of a home. According to accounts from law enforcement, officers attempted to engage with him, but the situation quickly escalated. It was during this confrontation that Mascarino is said to have pointed a shotgun at the officers present.
