In the summer of 2022, the life of Joseph Michael Doyle, a 38-year-old white male, was tragically cut short in Scottsdale, Arizona. On June 12, Doyle, who had recently earned a promotion to the position of General Manager at the Red Robin restaurant near Pima Road and Talking Stick Way, was found deceased inside the establishment. His death was the result of gun violence and was subsequently ruled a homicide.
An investigation into the circumstances of Doyle's death led authorities to a
suspect. In October of that year, 23-year-old Carlos Herrera was taken into custody at his residence in Tempe. According to police, Herrera confessed to a previous robbery of the same restaurant a month prior to the fatal incident. He allegedly decided to rob the restaurant a second time because he found the first attempt to be easy.
During the second robbery in June, Herrera encountered Joseph Doyle. He informed investigators that Doyle resisted the robbery, leading to a struggle over the firearm. In the course of the altercation, police believe Herrera shot and killed Doyle. Following his arrest, Herrera faced multiple charges, including first-degree murder, in connection with the death of Joseph Michael Doyle.
