In the summer of 2014, a meeting arranged through text messages ended in tragedy for a young man from Goodyear, Arizona. On the evening of June 17th, 19-year-old Davis Jurado, a Hispanic male, and his 45-year-old stepfather, David Archer, went to a local park. The purpose of their visit was to allegedly sell marijuana to an individual with whom Jurado had been in contact. However, the encounter turned violent, resulting in a double shooting that would claim one life and leave another man wounded.
Both Jurado and Archer were struck by gunfire. Despite their injuries, they managed to get themselves to the West Valley Hospital emergency room, arriving in a car that bore the tell-tale signs of the recent violence, its body riddled with bullet holes. Inside the hospital, medical staff attended to both men, but Jurado’s injuries proved to be too severe. He was pronounced dead, his life cut short in a senseless act of violence. Archer was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The Goodyear Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the shooting. Their initial search was for two suspects, described as men in their late teens or early twenties. The investigation led to the identification and subsequent arrest of two individuals. The first to be taken into custody was 24-year-old Andrew Tyraye Moering, who was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Service.
Following Moering’s arrest, a second suspect was identified and located. On July 15, 2014, a Goodyear SWAT team arrested 21-year-old Mitchell Avery Binion. He was taken into custody on suspicion of first-degree murder in connection with the death of Davis Jurado. Following his initial court appearance, Binion's bond was set at $1 million.
