Officer David Van Glasser, a 12-year veteran of the Phoenix Police Department, died on May 19, 2016, due to gunshot wounds he sustained while responding to a burglary call. The incident occurred on May 18, 2016, at a home near the intersection of 51st Avenue and Baseline Road in Laveen. The homeowner had called 911 to report that his son, 19-year-old Israel Santos-Banos, was stealing firearms from the home.
