In the late hours of an autumn evening in Tucson, Arizona, a violent altercation tragically cut short the life of 38-year-old Israel Dominguez Alfaro. On October 23, 2016, a confrontation erupted near the intersection of 7th Avenue and Lincoln Street. The Hispanic / Latino man and his brother were walking just blocks from their home when a blue SUV reportedly pulled up beside them.
Several men and a woman exited the vehicle and a fight ensued.
The dispute quickly escalated to a brutal level of violence. During the melee, Alfaro was beaten with a bat by the group of assailants. The attack reached its fatal conclusion when he was shot. When law enforcement officers arrived at the scene, they found Alfaro wounded. He was transported to a local hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to the severity of his injuries and was pronounced dead.
In the months that followed the deadly incident, the Tucson Police Department's investigation led to arrests in connection with the case. One of the first to be taken into custody was 29-year-old Alice Puente, who faced charges of first-degree murder and kidnapping. Later, on February 4, 2017, a second suspect, 38-year-old Angel Torres, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. The investigation suggested the fatal encounter was the culmination of a dispute that had begun earlier in the day.
