In the spring of 2018, a bright smile was tragically extinguished in Tucson, Arizona. David Jimenez, a 34-year-old male, was known by those who loved him as a man with a smile that could light up any room and hugs that offered a sense of security. He was a father to three children, Dominic, Lilly, and D'Andrea, who adored him, and he was pursuing a degree in business management at the University of Phoenix while working as a bartender.
His life, however, was cut short on Wednesday, April 18, 2018.
On that day, just before noon, a report of a shooting sent Tucson police officers to a hotel room on Speedway Boulevard. Inside, they discovered David Jimenez with severe injuries from gunshots. He was rushed to Banner University Medical Center, but the efforts to save him were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced deceased at the hospital. An investigation revealed that David had been in the hotel room with friends to meet with other men for a drug transaction. An altercation broke out, and in the ensuing chaos, gunfire was exchanged. The other men involved fled the scene, leaving a life lost and a family shattered.
The Tucson Police Department's Gang Unit detectives quickly began their investigation. Their efforts led them to identify two suspects in connection with David's death. Early the following Thursday morning, a SWAT team located and apprehended 33-year-old Cassius Brandon Mason without incident. The second suspect, 29-year-old Jose Angel Alvarez, was already in custody at the Pima County Jail on unrelated charges. Both men were subsequently charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery, aggravated robbery, and kidnapping for their roles in the death of David Jimenez.
