In the summer of 2018, Laura Anne Anderson, a 49-year-old paralegal from Scottsdale, Arizona, tragically became a victim in a string of killings that gripped the Phoenix metropolitan area. Anderson was found deceased on Friday, June 1, 2018. She had been a valued employee at the law firm Burt, Feldman, and Grenier for a decade.
The investigation into Anderson's death quickly linked her case to other recent homicides in the area.
Another paralegal from the same law firm, Veleria Sharp, who was 48 years old, was also killed on the same day. The violent spree also claimed the lives of forensic psychiatrist Steven Pitt, counselor Marshall Levine, and two other individuals, Mary Simmons and Bryon Thomas.
Authorities identified Dwight Lamon Jones, 56, as the suspect behind the series of murders. The connections between Jones and his victims stemmed from a contentious divorce that had been finalized the previous year. The law firm where Anderson and Sharp worked had represented Jones's ex-wife during the divorce proceedings. Other victims had also been involved in the divorce case in a professional capacity.
Before law enforcement could apprehend him, Dwight Lamon Jones took his own life. He was found deceased in a Scottsdale hotel room on Monday, June 4, 2018, from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, ending the tragic chain of events.
