In the early hours of a Tuesday morning in Phoenix, Arizona, a house party turned into a scene of tragedy, forever altering the lives of many. On March 19, 2019, a verbal altercation escalated into violence, resulting in the death of 17-year-old Shelby Verderosa. A young mother, Verderosa was attending a gathering in the area of 27th and Northern avenues when the fatal shooting occurred.
The conflict that led to the gunfire also claimed the life of 30-year-old Jorge Rodriguez.
In total, six people were shot during the incident. Verderosa and Rodriguez were pronounced dead at the scene from gunshot injuries. Four other men, with ages ranging from 19 to 56, sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Following the shooting, law enforcement initiated an investigation that quickly led to the identification and arrest of a suspect. Jeffery Rhone, who was 29 years old at the time, was taken into custody in connection with the double-fatal shooting. He was subsequently booked on murder charges as the investigation into the tragic events of that night continued. The community was left to mourn the loss of two lives, including a young woman whose child would grow up without her mother.
