In the pre-dawn hours of April 6, 2019, tragedy struck in a parking lot outside a Glendale, Arizona bar. A 27-year-old Hispanic male named Jorge 'Daniel' Marmolejo-Jurado was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds near 67th Avenue and Bethany Home Road. Glendale police had responded to the location, the La Rubia y la Morena bar, at approximately 2:30 a.m. after receiving reports of gunfire in the area.
Despite the immediate life-saving efforts of first responders, Jurado, a father of two, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting revealed that Jurado had a brief and fatal interaction with another man in the parking lot. That man, later identified as 20-year-old Eduardo Lugo-Ramos, had arrived at the bar hours earlier and parked next to the vehicle belonging to Jurado's girlfriend. The encounter began when Jurado approached Lugo-Ramos and reportedly asked him if he was drunk and had a problem. Shortly after the exchange, Lugo-Ramos fired a weapon, first toward the ground and then multiple times at Jurado, who was struck by the gunfire. Lugo-Ramos then fled the area in a vehicle.
Glendale police detectives quickly began piecing together the events of that morning. By reviewing surveillance footage and conducting interviews with a security guard, a bystander, and Jurado's girlfriend, they were able to identify Eduardo Lugo-Ramos as the suspect. On April 10, 2019, just days after the shooting, authorities located Lugo-Ramos. During a traffic stop, he initially refused to exit his vehicle, compelling officers to break his window to take him into custody. A search of his car and residence uncovered a weapon and clothing that matched what he was wearing during the incident.
Following his arrest, Lugo-Ramos admitted to his involvement in the shooting. He was subsequently booked into jail on several charges, including second-degree murder and misconduct involving weapons. His arrest brought a swift, though somber, resolution to the violent death of Jorge Jurado.
