In the early morning hours of a quiet Sunday in Yuma, Arizona, the stillness was shattered by the sound of gunfire. On December 29, 2019, Monico Rico, a 37-year-old Hispanic man, was found shot and fatally wounded. The incident, which also claimed the life of 28-year-old Angel Torres, unfolded on 14th Avenue, between 9th Place and 10th Street, leaving the local community in a state of shock and fear.
Emergency services were alerted by a 911 caller who reported hearing a man's cry for
help followed by the chilling sound of seven gunshots. This witness also observed a black truck speeding away from the area, though its connection to the tragic event remains unconfirmed. Upon their arrival, first responders discovered both Monico Rico and Angel Torres lying on the ground. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, including CPR administered at the scene, both men succumbed to their injuries after being transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center. It was later reported that Rico had been shot three times.
