On the night of November 9, 2020, in Phoenix, Arizona, a tragedy unfolded that cut short the life of 22-year-old Chardae Amari Dae Todd. A college graduate who was continuing her education in social work, she was a single mother to a two-year-old girl and was four months pregnant with her second child. After finishing her shift at FedEx Freight, Chardae was found shot in the area of 41st Avenue and West Tonto Street.
Phoenix police responded to the shooting, but Chardae succumbed to her injuries.
In the months that followed her death, Chardae's family was left with agonizing questions and no answers as to who was responsible or why she was targeted. Her mother expressed the profound heartbreak of knowing her daughter was left to die alone. She believes that the person or people responsible were known to Chardae and has pleaded for anyone with information to come forward. A memorial was established at the site of the shooting, a place her mother returns to, reminded of her loss.
As of early May 2021, nearly six months after the incident, no arrests had been made in connection with Chardae's murder, and no suspects had been publicly identified by law enforcement. In an effort to generate leads, the reward for information that could lead to an arrest in the case was increased to $20,000. Her family continues to seek justice for Chardae and her unborn child, hoping that someone will provide the crucial information needed to solve the case and bring closure to her grieving loved ones, especially to her young daughter who was left without her mother.
