In the quiet city of Chandler, Arizona, a heart-wrenching tragedy unfolded on January 31, 2021, forever altering the lives of a close-knit family. On that fateful day, 17-year-old Lance Ryan Eskeets, a vibrant senior at Chinle High School, was found deceased inside a vehicle. His life, full of promise and youthful energy, was cut tragically short. Lance, a member of the Tábąąhá and born for the Táchii'nii was known for his enthusiastic spirit and love for life.
The circumstances
surrounding Lance's death were devastatingly clear to authorities. He was discovered alongside his 21-year-old brother, Layton Brandon Eskeets, who was also deceased. Investigators quickly determined the incident to be a murder-suicide. It is believed that Layton shot and killed his younger brother before turning the weapon on himself. A firearm was recovered at the scene, leaving little doubt as to the sequence of events that transpired within the confines of the vehicle. The motive for this sorrowful act remains a painful question for those who knew and loved the two brothers.
Lance was remembered as an active and cherished young man who found joy in riding horses, engaging in friendly competition on his Xbox, and playing basketball. He held a special place in his heart for his niece and relished the time he spent with his friends and family. His sudden and violent death left a void in the lives of his parents, Mildred Eskeets and Lavon Tso Sr., his brother, Zachary, and his sisters, Rachelle and LaShauna, as well as his grandmother, Shirley Teller. The community mourned the loss of a young life, with a graveside service held in his hometown of Chinle, Arizona, where he was laid to rest.
