In the light of a Tucson, Arizona day, David Scott Anderson, a 30-year-old White / Caucasian male, was walking in his neighborhood, a routine act that tragically became his last. On May 1, 2021, in the 1100 block of East Waverly Street, his life was cut short by senseless gun violence. The Tucson Police Department responded to the scene to find Anderson fatally shot.
David was a man at a pinnacle in his life, full of promise and achievement.
An alumnus of the University of Arizona, he had graduated Magna Cum Laude and went on to earn a Master's Degree with honors. He had a passion for education, having taught at Sahuaro High School for two years before deciding to pursue a second degree in Computer Science. His hard work had paid off, securing him a prestigious internship with American Express that was set to begin in June of that year. Beyond his academic and professional pursuits, David was a man with a big heart, known for his amazing personality that touched many lives. He dedicated his time to tutoring children and volunteering to help immigrants with their English skills during the pandemic. He was also a published author and held a Blue Belt in Jiu Jitsu, a testament to his discipline and dedication.
The investigation into his untimely death led police to a suspect, 18-year-old Maurice Diaz-Casales. Diaz-Casales was arrested five days after the shooting, initially charged with felony flight from law enforcement after being found in Anderson's four-door sedan. Subsequently, he was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting. The family of David Scott Anderson, whose name fittingly means 'Beloved,' appealed to the public for any information that could aid in the investigation and bring justice for a life so tragically taken.
