A Black / African American man, Avant was found deceased by Tucson Police officers around 1:00 a.m. The circumstances of his death were immediately clear: he had been the victim of a deadly shooting.

He was a son, a husband to Selika 'QUEEN' Avant, a father to Rashanna Avant, and a grandfather to two grandchildren, Ava and Rashaan Avant. His death was a profound loss to his family, which included his mother, Euther May Avant, and numerous siblings, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
