In the summer of 2021, the life of 19-year-old Talmadge Cardell Holmes Jr. was tragically cut short in a violent act that also claimed the lives of his mother and younger brother. On the morning of July 1, 2021, first responders were called to a residence on East Toronto Street in Tucson, Arizona, for what was initially reported as a medical emergency.
Upon arrival, they discovered a grim scene.
Inside the home, Talmadge and his 14-year-old brother, Jaiden White, were found deceased, having suffered from gunshot trauma. Their 44-year-old mother, Willona Ametrice White, was also found inside with gunshot wounds. Investigators later revealed that all three victims had been shot multiple times, with a detective describing the scene as an 'execution.' It is believed that one or more of the victims may have been asleep when the attack occurred.
The investigation into the triple homicide led authorities to John Edwards James, the estranged husband of Willona White. At the time of the killings, James was reportedly out on bond for a domestic violence charge. In June of 2022, while already in custody for unrelated drug charges, James was arrested in connection with the murders.
In May 2023, a jury found John Edwards James guilty of the murders of his estranged wife and her two sons. The conviction brought a measure of justice to a case that had ended three lives and deeply affected the Tucson community.
