In the quiet suburban landscape of Chandler, Arizona, a tragedy unfolded that left a community in shock. Linda Butler, a 74-year-old woman, was found deceased in her home on Sunday, January 9, 2022. Her life was cut short in what investigators believe was a murder-suicide.
On that Sunday morning, around 6:30 a.m., law enforcement responded to a call that led them to the Butler residence near the intersection of Gilbert Road and Hunt Highway.
The call was reportedly made by Linda's husband, 76-year-old Sheldon Butler, who informed the police that he had shot his wife.
Upon entering the house, officers discovered the bodies of both Linda and Sheldon Butler. Both individuals had sustained what appeared to be a single gunshot wound each. The preliminary investigation led Chandler Police to suspect that Sheldon Butler shot his wife before taking his own life.
As of the initial reports, a motive for the tragic event had not been determined by the authorities. The incident left friends and neighbors grappling with the sudden and violent loss of the elderly couple.
