In the early morning hours of May 31, 2023, the life of 41-year-old Katherine Holmberg, a White/Caucasian female, was tragically cut short in what police have described as a murder-suicide. Residing in Chandler, Arizona, Katherine was pregnant at the time and eagerly anticipating the arrival of her first child, a daughter to be named Molly Blake Holmberg.
The harrowing events began to unfold just after 1:00 a.m.
when Chandler police received a 911 call from a man who sounded intoxicated and was uncooperative, refusing to provide his address. Soon after, concerned family members placed their own calls to 911, identifying the man as Katherine's 38-year-old husband, Kevin Holmberg, and expressing fear that Katherine was in danger.
Acting on this new information, officers were dispatched to the couple's residence in the 3900 block of W. Monterey St. As they surrounded the home, Kevin Holmberg exited the residence armed with a firearm shortly after 2:00 a.m. In a tragic turn of events, he shot himself in view of the officers.
Upon entering the home to check on Katherine's welfare, police made a devastating discovery. Katherine Holmberg was found deceased, having suffered a gunshot wound believed to have been inflicted by her husband. The investigation concluded that no one else was present in the home at the time of the incident. The case was investigated as a murder-suicide, with Kevin Holmberg being the sole suspect in the death of his wife and their unborn child.
