In the early morning hours of August 29, 2022, a tragic outburst of violence at a Mesa, Arizona apartment complex resulted in the death of 25-year-old Greyhawk Silversmith. A Hispanic male, Greyhawk was fatally shot and pronounced dead at the scene. The incident, which unfolded around 2:20 a.m. at a residence located at 550 E. McKellips Road, also claimed the life of 21-year-old Salvador Morales and left another man critically injured.

Responding to reports of gunfire, Mesa police officers arrived to a chaotic scene. The police department's Air Unit observed a man, later identified as 24-year-old Victor Silversmith, moving in and out of an apartment with a firearm. Victor Silversmith surrendered to the authorities without incident. As he was being taken into custody, the Air Unit spotted a man, identified as Salvador Morales, lying in a nearby parking lot with gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Inside the apartment from which Victor Silversmith had emerged, officers discovered two men who had been shot. One of these men was Greyhawk Silversmith, who was deceased. The other, later identified as Victor's 21-year-old brother, Micah Silversmith, was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries to which he succumbed days later. Investigations revealed a harrowing sequence of events within the family. Victor Silversmith reportedly witnessed Salvador Morales fatally shoot his brother, Micah, and their uncle, Greyhawk Silversmith. In response to this, Victor Silversmith shot and killed Morales.

Victor Silversmith was arrested and initially charged with one count of first-degree murder. He later pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to 16 years in prison for his role in the deadly altercation. Court documents indicated that Victor had recorded the shooting of Morales to show his brother what he had done. Despite the violent nature of the events, family members submitted letters to the court requesting leniency for Victor, describing him as a loving father.
