On June 3, 2023, 55-year-old Jessica Lynn Velasquez was fatally shot at a bus stop near Interstate 17 and Bell Road in Phoenix, Arizona. The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. when an assailant opened fire, resulting in the deaths of Velasquez and 64-year-old Jerry Carter, and injuring another individual. The suspect fled the scene but was later apprehended by Phoenix police.
