In the early morning hours of July 2, 2023, tragedy struck inside a residence in Yuma, Arizona, ending the life of 31-year-old Christian Galindo. A female, she was inside her home in the 2800 block of W. 1st Street when the sound of gunfire echoed through the neighborhood at approximately 12:16 a.m. In a devastating turn of events, a stray bullet penetrated her home and struck her.
Yuma County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to the scene following reports of shots fired.
Upon arrival, they discovered Galindo unresponsive with a gunshot wound. The deputies immediately began performing life-saving measures, which were continued by the Rural Metro Fire Department. Despite their efforts, her injuries proved fatal, and she was pronounced deceased at the scene. The initial investigation determined that Galindo was not the intended target but an innocent victim caught in the path of a random bullet.
The investigation into her death quickly progressed, and within days, the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Bureau identified two suspects. On July 3, 2023, investigators arrested 18-year-old Jose Flores and 18-year-old Mia Dominguez, both from Yuma. Their arrests brought a swift, though somber, development to the case that had tragically claimed a life.
Following their arrests, both suspects were booked into the Yuma County Detention Center. Jose Flores was charged with second-degree murder. Mia Dominguez faced the same charge of second-degree murder, with additional charges of false reporting to law enforcement, hindering prosecution, and evidence tampering. While the arrests were made, law enforcement officials stated that the case remained an active investigation.
