In the early hours of an autumn morning in Tucson, Arizona, the life of Alvy Ndayishimiye, a 27-year-old Black male, was tragically cut short. On October 22, 2023, Tucson Police officers were dispatched to the Stephenson Place apartment complex located at 3533 N. Estrella Ave., near the intersection of Prince Road and Stone Avenue, following reports of a shooting.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Ndayishimiye in the courtyard with a gunshot wound.
Emergency aid was rendered at the scene by the officers, but despite their efforts, Alvy Ndayishimiye succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. Homicide detectives were called in to lead the investigation into the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting. Their inquiries revealed that Ndayishimiye had been a guest at the apartment complex that evening. An argument erupted between him and other guests, and during this dispute, he was shot.
The investigation progressed swiftly, and within a day of the incident, authorities had identified a suspect. On October 23, 2023, detectives with the Tucson Police Department arrested 26-year-old Gilbert Rodriguez in connection with the shooting. Rodriguez was taken into custody and booked on suspicion of first-degree murder, bringing a swift, if somber, development to a case of deadly gun violence.
