In a south Phoenix neighborhood, a disagreement over a truck took a fatal turn, leading to the death of 55-year-old Martin Tapia. On the afternoon of October 31, 2023, police responded to a call near 18th and Raymond streets, where they discovered Tapia on the ground, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
According to accounts from people in the area, a woman was seen fleeing the scene of the shooting,
holding a gun. Law enforcement located the woman, identified as 36-year-old Rebecca Lopez, in a home close by and took her into their custody. Investigators gathered evidence, looked for video footage, and interviewed witnesses to piece together the events of that afternoon. The information they gathered supported the claims made by the witnesses.
The preliminary findings of the investigation indicated that the shooting was the result of a dispute between Tapia and Lopez about the use of a truck. Following their investigation, the police arrested Rebecca Lopez and she was booked on charges of second-degree murder.
