On February 3, 2024, around 5:35 p.m., Phoenix police officers responded to a report of a shooting in the area of 40th Avenue and Hadley Street. Upon arrival, they found 32-year-old Jose Angel Ruiz Leyva suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Ruiz Leyva was immediately transported to a local hospital, specifically Banner University Medical Center, where he was treated for serious injuries. However, he did not survive and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
