Adam Arndt was a talented and active member of the cyclekart building community, known for his contributions to a growing scene of builders and racers in Utah. A 31-year-old White male, he was part of a group that had constructed over a dozen of the small, vintage-style race cars and participated in events like the Huntsville GP. By the summer of 2024, he was living in Tucson, Arizona.
In the early morning hours of August 2, 2024, an argument broke out at the home Adam shared with his
roommate in the 2500 block of East Cambridge Ring Drive. At around 6 a.m., his roommate, Jayden Betters, confronted him. The verbal dispute escalated violently when Betters retrieved a firearm and shot Adam. After the shooting, Betters fled the home on foot.
Emergency crews from the Tucson Fire Department arrived at the scene and rendered aid, but their life-saving efforts were unsuccessful. Adam Arndt was pronounced deceased from his injuries. Responding officers with the Tucson Police Department began a search for the suspect and quickly located Jayden Betters nearby, near East Irvington Road and South Tucson Boulevard.
Homicide detectives took over the investigation, which they classified as a domestic violence incident. After conducting interviews and serving a search warrant at the residence, they arrested Betters. He was booked into the Pima County Jail and charged with first-degree murder.
On August 28, 2024, a jury found Jayden Betters guilty of first-degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the death of Adam Arndt. According to the latest report from August 2024, Betters was awaiting his sentencing, which was scheduled for October 5.
