On May 20, 2015, Detective Kerrie Orozco, a 29-year-old officer with the Omaha Police Department, tragically lost her life in the line of duty. Orozco, who had joined the force in December 2007, was part of the Metro Area Fugitive Task Force at the time of the incident. The fatal encounter occurred at 12:58 PM while she and her team were conducting surveillance to apprehend a 26-year-old fugitive named Marcus Wheeler, who was wanted on a felony warrant for first-degree assault.
