Laron Rogers, a 25-year-old Black / African American male, was shot on March 6, 2017, outside a convenience store in North Omaha, Nebraska. The incident occurred at the Ames Avenue Convenience store. Initially, it was reported that the shooting happened during a robbery at the store. However, subsequent investigations and legal proceedings revealed that the event transpired during a marijuana deal that went wrong.
Following the shooting, Rogers was transported to a hospital for treatment
of his injuries. He fought for his life for more than two weeks before succumbing to his injuries on March 22, 2017. His death was officially confirmed by the Omaha Police Department on that day.
In the course of the investigation, a suspect was identified and arrested. In May 2019, a jury convicted a man for the murder of Laron Rogers. The trial brought to light the details of the drug-related transaction that ultimately led to the fatal shooting, shifting the narrative from a random act of violence during a robbery to a targeted incident.
Laron was born on August 26, 1991, in Omaha and graduated from Blackburn High School in 2009. He was employed at Boost Mobile and was remembered by his coworkers as family. Though he had no children of his own, he was a loving uncle to his nieces and nephews. He had a passion for music and enjoyed creating his own. Described as a humble man with a smile that could light up a room, he was known for his positive presence. His life was cut short in a tragic event that deeply affected his family and community.
