Virjillo Gurrero-Quiros, 44, a Hispanic male, was spending the first minutes of Saturday, June 17, 2017, on a porch in north Omaha when gunfire split the quiet along Hartman Avenue. Around 12:50 12:55 a.m., police were called to the area of 25th and Hartman, where they found him suffering from a gunshot wound after a shot was fired from across the street toward the group gathered on the porch.
Neighbors described a shooter firing from between houses toward 2530 Hartman Avenue as people some of them children sat outside.
Officers rushed him to Nebraska Medical Center in extremely critical condition, but he did not survive. The initial scene offered little clarity: a blast from across the way, a wound to the upper abdomen, and a night that ended with the victim s death at the hospital as detectives began their canvass for witnesses.
In the days that followed, authorities said the investigation was ongoing. No suspect description was released that morning, and by late Saturday afternoon police reported no arrests.
