Stacy A. McArtor, a White male, age 58, died on November 10, 2018, near Valley, Nebraska, in what authorities described as an accidental shooting while deer hunting with his 37-year-old son, Joshua. As evening fell on opening day of Nebraska s firearm deer season, the two had set up near North 264th Street and Road Y. When McArtor began to descend from a tree stand and handed his rifle down, the gun discharged, striking him; deputies and emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
An autopsy was ordered following the on-scene investigation.
Deputies reported that Joshua told them he had accidentally shot his father and provided a timeline of their arrival to hunt that afternoon. News accounts and sheriff s statements at the time consistently described the death as the result of a hunting accident rather than a criminal act. Authorities did not announce any arrests, name any suspects, or indicate pending charges in connection with the shooting.
