Marquell Ahmad Dale, 22, a Black male, died on July 17, 2020, in Bellevue, Nebraska. Late that Friday night, deputies from the Sarpy County Sheriff s Office, along with Offutt Air Force Base police and Bellevue police, were called to a home near 30th Street and Ryan Avenue after reports of gunfire. Two men were found with gunshot wounds; Dale died at the scene and the other man was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Authorities said there were no suspects at large following the initial response to the shooting.
Investigators later described the gathering as a party where Dale had been asked to leave. According to the sheriff s office, he left, returned with a gun, and fired multiple times; the host returned fire, striking Dale. The wounded host was expected to recover. Officials said the public was not in danger, and that two Offutt airmen were involved in the incident.
As of the immediate aftermath of the shooting, no arrests had been made and no charges had been filed; the case was referred to Sarpy County prosecutors for review. Dale was publicly identified by authorities following next-of-kin notification, and memorial pages and obituaries later recorded his death on that date in Bellevue.
