On a Thursday evening in north Omaha, Nebraska, what should have been a regular night turned into a scene of tragedy for 17-year-old JiaQuan Williams, a Black/African American male. On June 3, 2021, police responded to a call around 8 p.m. and discovered both Williams and another 17-year-old, Javondre McIntosh, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both young men were transported to the Nebraska Medical Center for treatment.
Tragically, JiaQuan Williams died from his injuries shortly after his arrival. His friend, McIntosh, succumbed to his injuries two days later. At the time of his death, Williams had just finished his junior year at Benson High School.
The investigation into the double homicide led law enforcement to the Kansas City, Missouri, area. There, two male teenagers, aged 16 and 17, were arrested in connection with the shooting deaths of Williams and McIntosh. The 16-year-old was subsequently charged with six felonies, including first-degree murder, while the 17-year-old was charged with two counts of being an accessory to a felony. The arrests were made without incident, and the two suspects awaited extradition back to Nebraska.
