On the evening of September 17, 2024, a 26-year-old Black / African American man named Ramon Tramble Jr. was fatally shot in downtown Omaha, Nebraska. The incident occurred shortly after 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of South 16th and Farnam Streets. First responders arrived at the scene to find Tramble suffering from a gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to Nebraska Medicine in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, Ramon Tramble Jr.
succumbed to his injuries and passed away late the following afternoon. His family described him as a ball of energy and a helper, someone who would stop to help a stranger with a flat tire.
The night he was shot, Tramble was on his way to pick up his daughter. His death, the 13th homicide of the year in Omaha, left behind five children. His family remembers him as a great father who was deeply loved. The Omaha Police Department launched a homicide investigation into the shooting, seeking information from the public to help identify those responsible for his death.
Weeks after the shooting, the investigation led to arrests. In October, Omaha Police took a 16-year-old male, Marjan Lugendo, into custody in connection with the killing. The teenager was charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm to commit a felony. He was booked into the Douglas County Youth Center. Subsequently, a second teenager, an 18-year-old male, was also arrested. He faces a charge of being an accessory to a felony and was booked into Douglas County Corrections.
