Stacie Beutler, 46, a white female, was found shot to death in her York, Nebraska home on the night of January 30, 2023. Police were dispatched at about 9:45 p.m. to 84 South Platte Avenue after a 911 call reported a shooting; officers arrived to find her dead from multiple gunshot wounds. According to court records and contemporaneous reporting, the 911 call came from her husband, Bart Beutler, who told dispatchers he had shot her.

Investigators with the York Police Department, assisted by the Nebraska State Patrol, began searching for the suspect that night. Officers located him a short time later at a residence in the 400 block of North Iowa Avenue and arrested him without incident. He was booked on charges including first-degree murder, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, and possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person. Early affidavits described a barrage of gunfire; one report later quoted that he fired until the clip was empty, and another said court documents put the number of shots at ten.

In the months that followed, prosecutors moved the case forward while the defense initially entered not-guilty pleas. Ultimately, in York County District Court on October 30, 2023, Judge James Stecker sentenced Bart Beutler to consecutive prison terms totaling 100 to 130 years 60 to 80 years for second-degree murder and 40 to 50 years for a weapons conviction stemming from the killing of his wife. The Nebraska Attorney General s Office announced the outcome and credited the York Police Department and Nebraska State Patrol for the investigation.

Appellate filings that followed did not change the result. The Nebraska Court of Appeals affirmed his conviction and sentencing, and reporting on the case noted that an appeal seeking relief from the 100 130 year term was denied, leaving intact the findings that he called 911 to report the shooting, fled to another residence where he was arrested in blood-stained clothing, and was responsible for his wife s death.
