In the early hours of Tuesday, May 28, 2024, a tragic event unfolded in Omaha, Nebraska, leading to the death of 34-year-old Jessica Haley, a Caucasian female. Haley was discovered deceased inside her apartment located near 46th Street and Redman Avenue. Investigators from the Omaha Police Department were quick to determine that the circumstances surrounding her death were indicative of a homicide, specifically identifying the cause as a shooting.
As the investigation progressed, law
enforcement officials identified 41-year-old William Coleman as the primary suspect in Haley's murder. A collaborative effort between the Omaha Police Department and the Omaha Metro Area Fugitive Task Force was launched to locate and apprehend Coleman. Their investigative work led them to a residence near 36th and Grand Avenue, where they had credible information to believe Coleman was located. On the afternoon of May 29, 2024, law enforcement established a perimeter around the house and prepared to execute a search warrant.
For approximately thirty minutes, officers attempted to communicate with Coleman, using a public address system from a marked police cruiser to urge him to surrender peacefully. Their attempts at a peaceful resolution were tragically cut short when, at 2:42 p.m., officers on the scene heard a single gunshot originating from within the residence. Upon entering the premises, law enforcement discovered William Coleman deceased from what was determined to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. This brought a somber and complex conclusion to the case, with both the victim and the suspect deceased. The investigation into Coleman's death is being handled as an in-custody death, as is required by Nebraska statute, with the Omaha Police Department's Officer Involved Investigations Team, the Homicide Unit, and the Bellevue and La Vista Police Departments leading the investigation.
