On August 4, 2013, at approximately 6:58 p.m., Wilmington police responded to reports of gunfire in the 700 block of West 5th Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered 19-year-old Jermaine "Maine" Goins Jr. with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate CPR efforts by the officers, Goins was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
