On September 7, 2017, 28-year-old Allen Melton of Wilmington, Delaware, was fatally shot after attempting to intervene in a confrontation involving his girlfriend. The incident occurred near Cedar and Anchorage Streets, where Melton's girlfriend was engaged in an altercation with a female associate of Sandy Lashley, a 31-year-old man from Queens, New York.
