Allen R. Huff, a 23-year-old Black male, was killed on the night of December 12, 2020, in Newark, Delaware, in a double homicide that also took the life of 18-year-old Iris Longakit. Police said officers were sent to the Hunters Crossing Apartments at 39 Fairway Road at about 9:17 p.m. after reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found Huff and Longakit suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers tried to save them, but both victims died from their injuries at the scene.
The shooting unfolded on a Saturday night in the apartment complex, where early reports described the sound of multiple gunshots followed by people screaming. Rescue crews from Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder, New Castle County Paramedics, Delaware State Police, and New Castle County Police were dispatched to the scene. The first reports that night said two people had been pronounced dead, and the following day authorities confirmed the case was being handled as a double homicide by detectives with the New Castle County Division of Police.
In the immediate aftermath, there were indications of a possible suspect fleeing the area. First State Update reported that, several minutes after the rescue response, Newark Police began alerting officers that a suspect was fleeing County Police into Newark. A vehicle was reportedly seen traveling at a high rate of speed on Casho Mill Road near Downes Elementary, and officers searched on foot near Casho Mill Road and Nottingham Road while a Delaware State Police helicopter circled the area, including near Appleton Road in Maryland. Authorities did not release the identity of the shooter or further details about the reported chase.
Allen’s obituary said he was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on December 26, 1996, to Teresa Whitt and Robert A. Huff, and that he died in Newark on December 12, 2020. It described him as someone who loved rapping and was known by the nickname ASAP 40. The obituary also mentioned his love of jet skiing, skating, shopping, basketball, and spending time with children in the family, adding a fuller picture of a young man whose life ended just two weeks before his 24th birthday.
As of the New Castle County Police cold case review published in February 2024, the murders of Allen Huff and Iris Longakit remained under investigation by the department’s Cold Case Squad. Police asked anyone with information to contact the Criminal Investigations Unit or Crime Stoppers, and the public notice did not report any arrests, named suspects, charges, trial proceedings, or convictions connected to the killings.
