On March 6, 2002, 29-year-old Azita Jamshab, an Iranian immigrant residing in Westbrook, Maine, was found shot to death near a gravel pit in Cumberland. Her life insurance agent, Santanu "Sam" Basu, was later convicted of her murder. Basu had sold Jamshab a $100,000 life insurance policy two months prior, naming himself as the primary beneficiary.
