On July 31, 2003, 53-year-old David Langway of Winterport, Maine, visited the Glenburn residence of his longtime acquaintance, 45-year-old Jimmy D. Lipham. The two men, friends since 1984, planned to poach a deer that day. Upon arrival, Langway went to a field behind the house to pick blueberries, while Lipham retrieved his Glock .45 caliber handgun from inside the house. They then proceeded into the nearby woods.
