In the summer of 2016, a plan was set in motion by a group of individuals from New York to travel to the small town of Rangeley, Maine, with the intention of robbing a local resident of controlled substances. This scheme would ultimately lead to the death of 29-year-old Michael Bokun, a white male from Manhattan. The group, including Andre Muller, Robert Holland, and Hector Munoz, developed a plan to steal drugs from a residence on Main Street.
On July 26, 2016, some of the co-conspirators traveled from New York to a location just outside of Rangeley to meet with others and finalize the details of the robbery. Two days later, in the early morning hours of July 28, Michael Bokun and Hector Munoz entered the targeted home armed with knives. Their objective was to forcibly take drugs from the resident.
Once inside the apartment, a violent confrontation ensued between the intruders and the homeowner. The resident, who was stabbed during the altercation, defended himself by opening fire on the two men. Michael Bokun was shot in the chest and died from his injuries at the scene. Hector Munoz sustained a head injury during the struggle. The homeowner was also injured but survived.
In the aftermath of the fatal home invasion, an extensive investigation was launched by multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Maine State Police and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. The investigation uncovered the conspiracy to commit the robbery. In the years that followed, several of Bokun's co-conspirators were arrested and faced federal charges. Andre Muller and Robert Holland were convicted for their roles in planning the robbery and were sentenced to lengthy prison terms. Hector Munoz, who entered the home with Bokun, pleaded guilty to his involvement and was also sentenced. Another man, who acted as the getaway driver, was also identified and sentenced for his part in the crime.
