On October 5, 2020, the life of 64-year-old White female, Tina J. Brown Bowden, was tragically cut short in her Waldo, Maine home. That evening, her brother, Glenn Brown, then 66, walked into the Belfast Police Department and cryptically reported that he had shot "two exotic birds." This strange confession prompted a welfare check at Tina's residence on Bonne Terre Road.
When officers from the Waldo County Sheriff's Department arrived, they discovered a grim scene.
Tina Bowden was found deceased inside the home, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Her husband, Richard Bowden, also 64, was found with faint signs of life and was rushed to Waldo County General Hospital, but he too succumbed to a gunshot wound. The State Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that both Tina and Richard died from single gunshots to the head.
The investigation quickly centered on Glenn Brown, who was taken into custody. A search of his pickup truck revealed a 9mm Taurus pistol, which matched the empty shell casings found at the Bowden's home. The motive for the shocking crime appeared to stem from a bitter and long-standing family dispute over their late stepfather's estate. Court documents and statements from other family members revealed that there was "enormous amount of animosity within the family" and that Glenn Brown was very angry with his sister, Tina.
Glenn Brown was subsequently charged with two counts of murder for the deaths of his sister and brother-in-law. In March 2022, he pleaded no contest to the charges. This plea meant that while not admitting guilt, he accepted that there was enough evidence to convict him. Following his plea, the judge found him guilty, and he was ultimately sentenced for the murders.
