In the quiet community of Belfry, Montana, the tranquility was shattered in April of 2016. Lloyd Lamb, a 76-year-old White male, became a victim in a shocking act of violence that also took the lives of his wife, Sharon Hill-Lamb, and her sister, Karen Hill-LeCou. On April 5, 2016, the three were found deceased in their home, their lives cut short by numerous gunshot wounds. The peaceful life Lamb, a disabled U.S. Navy veteran, had built came to a brutal and unexpected end; he was discovered shot in his own bed.
The investigation into the triple homicide swiftly led law enforcement to a single suspect: Robert James LeCou, the husband of Karen Hill-LeCou. LeCou was apprehended the day after the bodies were discovered in Spokane, Washington. As the legal proceedings unfolded, the devastating details of the crime came to light. The prosecution revealed that the three victims had been shot a total of 17 times.
Despite the horrific nature of the killings, a clear motive for the slayings never emerged during the investigation or trial.
In the Carbon County Courthouse, the community sought answers and justice for the senseless loss of three of its residents. During the trial, prosecutors painted a grim picture of the crime, emphasizing the defenselessness of the victims. In June of the following year, a jury found Robert LeCou guilty on three counts of deliberate homicide. The presiding judge, calling the crime one of the worst he had ever seen, sentenced LeCou to a total of 300 years in the Montana State Prison, ensuring that he would spend the remainder of his life behind bars. Though LeCou maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings, the conviction brought a measure of closure to the families and the heartbroken community of Belfry.
