In a tragic and unsettling turn of events, a simple trip to a hospital ended in the death of Joseph W. Bell Jr., a 79-year-old retired auditor and World War II veteran from Washington, D.C. The male victim had gone to Providence Hospital on the morning of February 9, 2005, to pick up his wife, Eva, after she had a routine checkup. After a brief chat with his wife, Bell went to the restroom.
