In the quiet town of Hamilton, Montana, a verbal dispute on February 26, 2021, tragically escalated, ending the life of 52-year-old Peter Vanvallis, a White / Caucasian male. The argument was with another man, who was later identified by authorities.
Following the fatal encounter, the suspect fled the scene, sparking an immediate investigation.
Two days later, 43-year-old Jamie Michael Conway, also identified in some reports as John Conway, arranged to surrender to law enforcement officials. At the time of his surrender, he turned over a handgun. Conway was subsequently charged with deliberate homicide for the death of Vanvallis. An additional charge of assault with a weapon was filed against him in connection with a separate incident where a woman reported that he had pointed a gun at her.
During legal proceedings, it was revealed that Conway claimed the victim had been armed at the time of their altercation. However, investigators reported that no weapon was found on Peter Vanvallis or within the house where the shooting occurred. Conway's legal representation stated their intention to argue self-defense. A judge set his bail at $500,000.
