In what was initially believed to be a suicide, the death of Gwen Ann Marshall, a 48-year-old White/Caucasian female, on May 14, 2022, was later ruled a homicide. A friend discovered Marshall's body inside her home located at 3246 Stone Street in Billings, Montana. Investigators with the Yellowstone County Sheriff's Office were called to the scene, and the absence of a firearm led them to suspect foul play.
The investigation quickly led to a suspect, 59-year-old David Antonio Rodas, who
had been living with Marshall since March of that year. The day after Marshall's body was found, Rodas was taken into custody. Prior to his arrest, he had been seen exhibiting erratic behavior in the Billings Heights area. Reports indicated he was running through traffic, shouting at people, and banging on the door of a closed business. He appeared to be intoxicated and was transported to a local hospital for medical attention under the watch of sheriff's deputies.
Rodas was subsequently charged with deliberate homicide in connection with Marshall's death. In court, he initially claimed to have no memory of the day she died. However, he later entered a plea of no contest to the charge. On June 12, 2023, David Antonio Rodas was sentenced to 80 years in prison for the murder of Gwen Marshall. During the course of the investigation, another individual was briefly considered for involvement, but authorities confirmed that person was at work at the time of the shooting.
