Bryan Jess Seward, 46, a white male from Pocatello, Idaho, died on October 4, 2014, after a violent encounter with police escalated from a routine traffic stop into a high-speed chase through the city. During the attempted stop, Seward fired at an officer and fled, drawing law enforcement into pursuit.
Witnesses in a Wilson Avenue mobile home park reported hearing gunshots moments before Seward sped into the neighborhood and crashed into a mobile home.
Investigators said that before the impact Seward shot himself; he was pronounced dead at the scene, and no officers were wounded. Authorities publicly identified him the next day.
In the weeks that followed, the Bannock County Prosecutor reviewed the case and concluded the officers' actions were consistent with the law, announcing there would be no charges stemming from the pursuit. Because Seward was the gunman and died of a self-inflicted wound, there were no arrests and no outstanding suspects connected to his death.
