In a tragic turn of events on a Friday evening in Pocatello, Idaho, 21-year-old Caucasian male Timothy D. Hunt was killed in a double homicide on October 15, 2021. The incident, which also claimed the life of 41-year-old Jennifer D. Leigh, unfolded around 11:15 p.m. at a residence on Philbin Road. Both Hunt and Leigh were residents of Pocatello.
Law enforcement was alerted to the scene after a neighbor reported hearing approximately six gunshots.
Upon arrival, officers discovered both Hunt and Leigh deceased inside the mobile home. The subsequent investigation swiftly led police to a suspect, 39-year-old Jesse Leigh, who was apprehended in the early morning hours the following day at a home in the nearby city of Chubbuck. At the time of his arrest, Jesse Leigh was found with a loaded 9-millimeter handgun and had blood on his clothing.
Further investigation revealed that Jennifer Leigh was Jesse Leigh's estranged wife and had been living with Hunt at the time of the killings. During questioning, Jesse Leigh reportedly inquired if the victims were dead and admitted to making a mistake. He was subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Tragically, the 7-year-old son of Jesse and Jennifer Leigh was present in the home at the time of the shootings and witnessed the event.
Jesse Patrick Leigh later pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder. During his court proceedings, he expressed remorse for his actions, stating, "I know what I did was wrong. I deserve whatever I get... I hate myself for doing this to everybody." He was ultimately sentenced to a minimum of 30 years in prison for the murders of Timothy Hunt and Jennifer Leigh. Family members of both victims provided emotional impact statements to the court, describing the profound loss and pain caused by their deaths.
